Trevino's Percussion Studio

Keller ISD: Please fill out the forms on the following website. This is also where you can find information on scholarship opportunities for lessons. https://www.fossilridgeband.com/private-lessons

Lessons

  • Private lessons are offered in slotted, about half-hour sessions. Lessons are held weekly from August through May following the calendar attached to this document. Please see the correct calendar depending on where your student is attending school. Students should arrive on time with all required materials and a positive, teachable attitude. If the student arrives late, the lesson will end on time, and the time will not be made up. It is recommended for students to be outside of the door a couple of minutes prior to their start time and knock on the door right at the beginning of their start time. Parents are welcome to observe or sit in on any lesson.
  • Students should continue lessons during the summer. The teacher feels strongly about continuing musical education throughout the summer months, which ensures ongoing progress for the students. This is not required and completely voluntary.

Supplies

  • Students are required to have the following supplies: concert snare drum sticks, marimba mallets, metronome, binder with band music, paper and pencil for note taking, lesson books and material. Lesson books and material will change depending on the skill level and school of the student. Some lessons material, not supplies, will be provided by the teacher.
  • Parents are required to make a MyMusicStaff account. Parents can create an account at https://trevinoslessons.mymusicstaff.com/New-Student-Sign-Up. MyMusicStaff is a software made for private lesson studio that makes organization, payment, and information extremely streamlined. It allows parents to be more involved in the lessons by receiving lesson notes, objectives, and invoices in an efficient manner.
  • Book: Firm Foundations by John Bingaman
    • This book is required only for 6th grade percussionists, and highly recommended for middle school percussionists.
    • High school students may be asked to buy this book depending on their deficiencies.

Tuition – Payment

  • Tuition is billed monthly. Lessons are PRE-PAID. You will receive an invoice on the 20th, and payment is due on the 1st of the month in which the lesson takes place. You may pay via credit card on MyMusicStaff, or cash on the first lesson of the month. Your invoice will include all upcoming lessons for the month and may vary due to lessons in the month. School holidays, testing, field trips, among other things are causes for this variance.
  • Automatic Payment is highly encouraged for all MyMusicStaff accounts. Your credit card or bank account information is stored securely in your account and billed only when an invoice is emailed. You can add or change a credit card or bank account in MyMusicStaff account at any time.
  • If a student has not paid for a lesson, the lesson will not be held. Payment must be made prior to the lesson to ensure payment is being made.

Attendance

  • Twenty-four hours’ notice/cancellation is requested for all lesson absences, including illness, appointments, and school conflicts such as field trips, competitions, assemblies, and testing. Please login to MyMusicStaff account at https://trevinoslessons.mymusicstaff.com/Login and click on a lesson to cancel and reschedule.
  • Unexcused Absences: Lessons canceled or missed by the student with LESS THAN 24 HOURS notice will NOT be rescheduled or refunded. A lesson is also considered an unexcused absence if a student is more than 10 minutes late. Three or more unexcused absences from lessons are grounds for dismissal from private lessons.
  • Excused Absences: Lessons cancelled with MORE THAN 24 HOURS notice will be given a make-up lesson credit. The student must reschedule lessons by logging into MyMusicStaff at https://trevinoslessons.mymusicstaff.com/Login and clicking on any open lesson time that corresponds with the campus the student attends.
  • Teacher Absences: The teacher will attend all lessons scheduled. If the teacher is unable to attend, he will give a notice via email and text message. The lesson will be made up as soon as possible or credit the lesson fee to next month’s tuition. If the teacher arrives late, the lesson will be extended, or will plan for additional time at a future lesson. Scheduled absences (such as school holidays, vacations, and conferences) will be listed on the studio calendar.

Participation

  • Students should bring sticks, mallets, and lesson materials to every lesson with no exceptions. Parents will be informed about students’ failure to do so via MyMusicStaff, email, and/or text. It is imperative students bring materials to lessons to ensure optimal progress.
  • Parents are encouraged to read the student’s lesson notes, sent weekly via email, and offer guidance and encouragement to practice at home. The study of music is rewarding and enjoyable, but it also takes a lot of hard work! “You make out of it what you put into it.” Students should opt in to participate in events such as region auditions (fall), solo and ensemble (spring), studio recitals, masterclasses, and other musical opportunities available. The DFW metroplex is one of the most musically active areas in the country, take advantage of it!

Discontinuing Lessons

  • Students should enroll in lessons for the full academic semester. One month’s notice via email or text message is requested. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so lessons can conclude with a positive sense of closure.
  • At the discretion of the teacher, students may be asked to discontinue lessons, due to; unpaid tuition, persistent absences, failure to prepare for lessons, failure to honor studio policies, inappropriate or disrespectful behavior. Parental notification will be given, time and effort will be provided to correct the situation before lessons are terminated.

Communication

  • Watch your inbox for relevant emails from noetrevino.music@gmail.com and noreply@mymusicstaff.com, which include lesson reminders, notes, and invoices. Personal lesson reminders and notes will be emailed and/or texted weekly to the email address and phone numbers listed in the student account.
  • Visit https://trevinoslessons.mymusicstaff.com/Login to login to your MyMusicStaff account, find teacher contact information, current studio policies and procedures, cancel or reschedule lessons, access the studio calendar, download tailored music assignments, objectives, lesson notes, and more.
  • Any questions or concerns should be directed to the lesson teachers email or phone number.

Teacher Responsibilities

  • The teacher’s responsibility to the student is to provide a welcoming atmosphere for learning and a well-balanced musical education. Lessons are tailored to the student’s particular skills and interests. Challenges, direction, and guidance will be given to the student regarding how to practice outside of lessons. Professional standards will be maintained, and clear objectives will be established for each student. It is the teacher’s goal to give your student the best possible music education. The teacher belongs to professional organizations, attends workshops, and engages in professional development activities regularly to give your student the best experience he possibly can.
